Swiss ice skaters Werner "Frick" Groebli (1915-2008) and Hansruedi
Mauch joined the original Ice Follies as a comedy duo in 1937. Skating
in Alpine lederhosen, they performed eccentric tricks that few skaters have been
able to duplicate. Frick and Frack reached a worldwide audience when they
began to appear in films, including Lady, Let's Dance (1944). "Frick
& Frack" entered popular slang in many languages, signifying a pair
belonging together, often with a derisive connotation. Mauch retired in 1953,
but Groeblie continued to perform, solo or with other partners, until 1980.
George Sanders, a radio/TV interview host in Los Angeles and later
Portland, collected autographs from guests on his show. Left edge frayed from
binding. Light surface creases. Fine condition.
