WERNER "FRICK" GROEBLI (FRICK AND FRACK)
The veteran comedy ice skater penned this note to interview host George Sanders, hoping to skate until the year 2000! Signed as "Mr. Frick" in his 37th year with Ice Follies!
Autograph Note signed: "To George/with thanks for making/it so easy. Hope to/be back in this palatial/1971 ... 1972 ... 2000!"/Sincerely/Mr. Frick/Ice Follies1970", 6¾x9¼. Swiss ice skaters Werner "Frick" Groebli (1915-2008) and Hansruedi Mauch joined the original Ice Follies as a comedy duo in 1937. Skating in Alpine lederhosen, they performed eccentric tricks that few skaters have been able to duplicate. Frick and Frack reached a worldwide audience when they began to appear in films, including Lady, Let's Dance (1944). "Frick & Frack" entered popular slang in many languages, signifying a pair belonging together, often with a derisive connotation. Mauch retired in 1953, but Groeblie continued to perform, solo or with other partners, until 1980. George Sanders, a radio/TV interview host in Los Angeles and later Portland, collected autographs from guests on his show. Light surface creases. Left edge frayed from binding. Fine condition.
