F. W. EASTMAN
Writing while on a burlesque tour, he promises to try a newly
submitted verse "when we are making a change."
Autograph Letter signed: "F. W. Eastman", 1 page, 8x10.
Sheffield [England], 1896 August 12. On letterhead of Arthur
Hendrey's No. 1 Tour, performing A Merry Madcap, by Victor Stevens. To
"Dear Mr. Webb", in full: "Many thanks for verse. I will try it
one day when we are making a change. Kind regards. Yours sincerely". F.
W. Eastman was performing in an English tour of one of the burlesque-style
musicals of Victor Stevens, A Merry Madcap. Stevens' musical shows,
beginning with Nymphs of the Danube (1882) were popular on the burlesque
circuit in the late 19th century. But burlesque was losing popularity in England
at this time, supplanted by the light operas of Gilbert and Sullivan, and
others. Three horizontal folds. One vertical fold. Light nicks and tears at
edges. Lightly creased. Lightly worn at edges. Otherwise, fine
condition.
