GALE NORTON
Rare signature from the first female Secretary of the Interior on a
color photograph
Photograph signed: "Gale A. Norton", in blue ink, Color 8½x10.
Gale Norton (b. 1954) was the 48th United States Secretary of the
Interior, serving from 2001 to 2006, and was the first woman to serve in
the position. Norton graduated magna cum laude from the University of
Denver, and served her first political position as the Attorney General of
Colorado from 1991 to 1999. She was a candidate for Senator in 1996, but
was defeated by Wayne Allard. She resigned from her position as Secretary of
the Interior in 2006 after an investigation began into her association with the
lobbyist Jack Abramoff, and her financial ties to the Royal Dutch Shell
company. In 2010, the Justice Department closed the investigation. Corners
slightly worn and creased. Slightly toned. Fine condition.
