GALWAY KINNELL
Signed, typed copy of the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet's To Christ Our Lord
Poem signed "Galway Kinnell". 1 page, 8½x11. Signed copy of Kinnell's six-stanza poem To Christ Our Lord, about a man hunting a bird on Christmas morning. Kinnell, born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1927, is an American poet who won the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award for his poetry collection Selected Poems (1982). Kinnell's poems examine primitive concepts like death, love and nature, their power over man, how civilization disconnects mankind from them and the urban dispossessed. His most well-known poems are St. Francis and the Sow and After Making Love We Hear Footsteps. He was also a member of the Council on Racial Equality in the 1960s and was arrested for his work on voter registration and workplace equality in Hammond, Louisiana. His long poem The Book of Nightmares draws from these experiences and his work in the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War. He has a total of 15 books of poetry, a novel Black Light (1966) and a children's book How the Alligator Missed Breakfast (1982). Lightly creased and toned. Otherwise in fine condition.
