Photo inscribed and signed in1990
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Quincey -/with my very
best/wishes/Gant Gaither/16.IV.90". B/w, 8x10. Gant Gaither (1917-2004),
a Broadway producer in the 1950s, met actress Grace Kelly on the set of his
first production, Craig's Wife (1947). Gaither and Kelly became lifelong
friends. He was a member of her escort to Monaco for her marriage to Prince
Rainier (1956), and the following year he wrote a biography of her. He
was a founding member of the Grace Kelly Foundation, which made grants to
promising young artists, and remained a trustee all his life. Gaither also
produced one movie, My Six Loves (1963). He had a flourishing second
career as an artist, known for his "Zoophisticates", animal paintings which
gently mocked human antics. He also designed scarves, which he presented as
gifts to Princess Grace and other friends. Gaither was with his lover, Bradley
Little, editor of Architecture Digest, when the latter was brutally murdered on
a Los Angeles street in 1971. Fine condition.
