GARRICK UTLEY
Rare signature from the NBC news anchor and journalist
Signature: "Garrick/Utley", in black felt tip, 5x3. American journalist Garrick Utley (1939-2014) began his career during the Vietnam war, being the first correspondent to cover the war on-site. In major broadcasting, Utley worked for NBC early in his career, being greatly influenced by his parents who were radio correspondents for the broadcasting company. His first position was as an anchor substitute, followed by a position as a weekend anchor throughout the 1970's. Among his other news hosting duties were roles on shows such as Meet the Press, The Today Show, Live from the Met, and NBC Nightly News. He anchored on a number of historical U.S. events, from the Roe v. Wade decision to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. After working in several news circuits throughout his career, Utley began teaching, becoming a professor of broadcasting and journalism at the State University of New York at Oswego. He also authored a book in 2000, titled You Should Have Been Here Yesterday. He passed away in 2014 after battling prostate cancer. Toned. Corners lightly worn and creased. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
