In 1998, Garth Brooks' worldwide record sales reached 81 million, confirming the multi-Grammy Award-winning singer as the all-time biggest-selling solo artist in America. Brooks had become a superstar with his 1991 album, No Fences, which went multi-platinum (a first for a country album). His second album, Ropin' the Wind, was also an enormous success, becoming the first country album to debut at number one on the pop charts. Brooks, whose No. 1 hits include "The Dance", "Friends in Low Places", "Unanswered Prayers", "Two of a Kind, Workin' on a Full House", "The Thunder Rolls", "Shameless", "What's She's Doing Now" and "The River", is equally well known for his concert performances, which combined the elements of rock 'n' roll shows. Although he announced his intention to retire from touring, Brooks signed a multi-year deal with retail giant Wal-Mart in 2005, naming the chain as the exclusive commercial outlet for his recordings. Brooks was also in the news in 2005 for his engagement to fellow country music star, Trisha Yearwood, with whom he recorded the Grammy-winning duet, "In Another Eyes" (1997), and the Grammy-nominated duet, "Squeeze Me In". When Yearwood had her first No. 1 country hit in 1991 with "She's in Love With the Boy", a little-known singer named Garth Brooks had contributed background vocals. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
