GARY COOPER and ROBERT WISE
Newly-formed Aspen Pictures will pay Gary Cooper out of the profits from Return to Paradise.
Partly Printed Document Signed: "Gary Cooper" and "Robert E. Wise-V.P.", 1p, 8½x13. California, 1952 July 3. In part: "Notice is hereby given by Aspen Pictures, Inc., a California corporation as Assignor, whose chief place of business within the State of California is c/o Eagle-Lion Studios...and by Gary Cooper as Assignee...that the Assignor expects to assign, or has assigned, an account or accounts now existing or hereafter arising, to the said Assignee, and that the general nature of the business out of which such accounts arise is the production, distribution, exhibition, exploitation and disposition of the motion picture photoplay now entitled 'RETURN TO PARADISE' to be produced by Assignor." The short-lived movie company, Aspen Pictures, was founded by ROBERT WISE and former RKO colleague Mark Robson in 1951. Filmed in Samoa and based on James A. Michener's book of the same title, Return to Paradise starred GARY COOPER as an island drifter who falls in love with a lovely Polynesian girl. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for I Want to Live! (1958), Wise won Academy Awards for Best Director for West Side Story (1961) and The Sound of Music (1965). Cooper was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor for Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), The Pride of the Yankees (1942) and For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943) and won Academy Awards for Best Actor for Sergeant York (1941) and High Noon (1952). Lightly creased. File holes in upper blank margin, which also bears pencil notation (unknown hand). Lightly soiled in upper left blank corner. Fine condition.
