GARY HART
Senator Gary Hart sends a personal note to Senator Moynihan to say "excellent piece of work"
Autograph Letter signed: "Gary" as U.S. Senator and initialed after postscript "GH", 1p, 6¼x8, affixed to 8½x11 page. On his personal Senate letterhead. Washington, D.C., no date. To "Dear Pat" [Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan]. In full: "Of your remarks to the Friendly Sons, I can only comment that I wish I had said that - and I probably will. An excellent piece of work. Regards." Hart, a U.S. Senator from Colorado (1975-1987), contended seriously for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1984 and was the frontrunner in the 1988 contest until knocked from the race by charges of marital infidelity. He co-chaired the U.S. National Security Commission for the 21st Century, which warned in 1999 that a major terrorist attack on American soil was likely in the near future. DIRECTLY FROM THE SALE OF THE ESTATE OF DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN. Moynihan (1927-2003) represented New York in the U.S. Senate as a Democrat for four terms (1977-2001). A prolific author, he served in the administrations of four Presidents: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. Clear mounting tape at top and bottom edges. Tape at top covers a pencil check mark (unknown hand). Estate inventory stamp and red dot label on mounting sheet, which is lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
