The 1960's pop vocalist signs his name on the record album cover of This Diamond Ring, one of his most popular tunes
Record Album cover signed: "Gary/Lewis", in blue felt tip, 12½x12½. Cover of This Diamond Ring by Gary Lewis and the Playboys. Record included. Gary Lewis (b. 1945) headed the pop music group Gary Lewis and the Playboys, who played their first gig at Disneyland in 1964 without disclosing that Lewis was the son of famed comedian Jerry Lewis. The band made it to stardom after a 1965 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. They had a No. 1 hit in This Diamond Ring and 16 other Top 40 Hits, eight gold singles and four gold albums, but only Lewis and keyboardist/accordionist John Lewis remained in the band after 1965. The band broke up when Lewis entered military service in 1967, but later re-formed, performing on Jerry's Labor Day telethons for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. LEWIS, born in 1945, was drummer and lead singer. Cash Box magazine voted him 1965 Male Vocalist of the Year; Lewis beat out acts like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra for this honor. He was the only artist in the 1960's to chart his first seven releases on Billboard's Top 10 list. Toned. Soiled. Corners and edges heavily worn. Red stain on top margin. Image faded in some areas. Light dents and scratches to cover. Faint stains throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
