Gary Merrill signs his name on the verso of paper requesting his
autograph from a collector in England.
Signature: "Gary Merrill", 5¼x3½. On verso of a partly printed
request for an autograph from a collector in England, dated 1951 May 27. Gary
Merrill (1915-1990) starred in dramatic action films of the 1950s and early
1960s. Highlights included Twelve O'Clock High (1950) and The Human
Jungle (1954). He was married to actress Bette Davis (1950-1960),
appearing with her in 3 films, including All About Eve (1950). He was
a frequent TV guest star. Merrill was politically active, participating in the
Selma-Montgomery civil rights march of 1965 and switching parties to protest
President Johnson's policies in Vietnam. Slightly soiled. Light vertical creases
crosses second "r" in "Merrill". Faint pencil erasure in upper right corner.
