The South African golfer signs an advertisement for Shakespeare golf clubs.
Advertisement signed: "Gary Player", 1p, 8x11. Advertisement, which is titled, "World Series Winner Gary Player Plays Shakespeare/Fiberglas Wondershafts", depicts Player in action at lower portion. Published in the November 1965 issue of "Golf Digest". In 1965, Player won the U.S. Open, and he tied for second at the Masters. South African golfer Gary Player (born in 1935), who is considered one of golf's greatest players, won 24 PGA tournaments (1958-1978), including seven majors. "The Black Knight" won all four of golf's most prestigious events: the British Open (1959, 1968, 1971, 1974), the Masters (1961, 1978), the PGA (1962-1971) and the U.S. Open (1965). After joining the Champions Tour, he won 19 additional tournaments. Player is also a renowned golf course architect, and he has received acclaim for breeding thoroughbred racehorses at his Gary Player Stud Farm. The Gary Player Foundation, founded in 1983, is dedicated to supporting the educational needs of rural and underprivileged children, and the foundation also supports other children's charities. Slightly creased. ¼-inch tar at upper blank edge, torn at lower left blank corner (all paper intact) and nicked at lower right blank corner. Overall, fine condition.
