South African golfer Gary Player (born in 1935), one of golf's greatest, won 24 PGA tournaments (1958-1978), including seven majors. "The Black Knight" - so named because he usually dressed in black - won all four of golf's most prestigious events: the British Open (1959, 1968, 1971, 1974), the Masters (1961, 1978), the PGA (1962-1971) and the U.S. Open (1965). After joining the Champions Tour, he won 19 additional tournaments. Player is also a renowned golf course architect, and he has received acclaim for breeding thoroughbred racehorses at his Gary Player Stud Farm. The Gary Player Foundation, founded in 1983, is dedicated to supporting the educational needs of rural and underprivileged children. Paper remnants torn from mount.
