Oak Hill Country Club (East Course), Rochester, New York. Scorecard for the second round of the 89th U.S. Open, which was held from June 15-18, 1989. Signature page features Nelson's scores for round 2; rules imprinted on left portion of verso. Player, who won the U.S. Open in 1965, did not make the cut at the 1989 event. Nelson, who won the U.S. Open in 1983, tied for 13th at this tournament, which was won by Curtis Strange. South African golfer GARY PLAYER (b. 1935), who is considered one of golf's greatest all-time players, won 24 PGA tournaments (1958-1978), including seven majors. "The Black Knight" won all four of golf's most prestigious events:the British Open (1959, 1968, 1971, 1974), the Masters (1961, 1978), the PGA (1962-1971) and the U.S. Open (1965). After joining the Champions Tour, he won 19 additional tournaments. Player is also a renowned golf course architect, and he has received acclaim for breeding thoroughbred racehorses at his Gary Player Stud Farm. The Gary Player Foundation, founded in 1983, is dedicated to supporting the educational needs of rural and underprivileged children. LARRY GENE NELSON (b. 1947) won 10 PGA tournaments (1979-1988), and he had 19 Champions Tour victories. Slightly creased with folds, vertical fold at the "P" in Player. Slightly soiled.
