Typed Letter Signed: “Gary Player” in black ink. 7¼x10½. Place: Cleveland, Ohio 44114. No date. Written on personal letterhead. In full:Mr. Richard L. Symons, 1031 Holben Avenue. Chico, CA 95926. Dear Dick, Thank you so much for your letter dated September 11, 1979. As you requested, I have signed the card which was enclosed in your letter. Best regards, Yours sincerely, Gary Player. GP/pc, enclosure.” South African golfer Gary Player (b. 1935), who is considered one of golf's greatest players, won 24 PGA tournaments (1958-1978), including seven majors. "The Black Knight" won all four of golf's most prestigious events: the British Open (1959, 1968, 1971, 1974), the Masters (1961, 1978), the PGA (1962-1971) and the U.S. Open (1965). After joining the Champions Tour, he won 19 additional tournaments. Player is also a renowned golf course architect, and he has received acclaim for breeding thoroughbred racehorses at his Gary Player Stud Farm. The Gary Player Foundation, founded in 1983, is dedicated to supporting the educational needs of rural and underprivileged children, and the foundation also supports other children's charities.
