Gary Snyder (b. 1930) has published two dozen collections of poems over a 50 year period
beginning in 1960. He won the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 1975 for Turtle Island. Snyder was
closely associated with the Beat Poets, Alan Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, and was the
model for the main character in Kerouac's novel The Dharma Bums. A serious student of
Buddhism and Asian cultures, he has translated Japanese and Chinese poetry, and teaches
writing at UC-Davis. Environmental awareness is also important to Snyder, and he has been
called "the poet laureate of Deep Ecology." Multiple mailing folds. Fine condition.
