GAVIN REED
Actor apologizes to John Willis, editor of Theatre World, for being late with his photograph
Autograph letter signed: "Gavin Reed" in black ink. 1 page, 6x9. July 16, 1974. New York City, New York. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis, Sorry to be so late in sending this, but I'd mislaid it, and didn't have my photographs from London until recently. I do hope it will be of some help to you with your yearbook. Yours sincerely". British actor Gavin Reed (1931-1990) was born in Liverpool, England. He appeared on stage and in films and television for nearly twenty five years from Theatre 625 (1965) to Run for you Wife (1989). His Broadway credits include Scapino (1974-1975) and Some of My Best Friends (1977). His screen appearances include Orlando (1968), Tattoo (1981) and Tootsie (1982). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Creased throughout. Corners rounded. Fine condition.
