GAYLE LYNDS
Handwritten thank you letter to Mary and Barnaby Conrad: "What a great conference!"
Autograph Letter signed: "Gayle", 2 pages (front and verso), 6¼x4¼. No place, 2001 July 20. On personalized note card to "Dear Barney & Mary [Conrad]. In full: "What a great conference! Thank you so much for inviting me to speak. You really know how to attract wonderful students, so it was a real pleasure to interact with them. A memorable night for me, and I'm very grateful. I hope you're taking it easy by now. My goodness, what it must take to put on such a marvelous event! Warm regards." Gayle Lynds , initially an investigative reporter for the Arizona Republic, found even greater success writing spy novels. With Robert Ludlum, she co-authored the Covert-One series, including The Hades Factor (2000), made into a TV mini-series. Her Masquerade (also 2000), was called by Publishers Weekly one of the ten top spy novels of all time. The Last Spymaster (2006), was named Novel of the Year by the Military Writers Association of America. She was married to Dennis Lynds until his death in 2005. Barnaby Conrad, himself a prolific fiction and non-fiction writer, was co-founder with his wife Mary of the prestigious Santa Barbara Writers Conference, running it for over 30 years, through 2004.
