GAYLE PORTER HOSKINS
His ink signature on one of his illustrations
Printed Art signed in ink: "Gayle Hoskins", 6¼x8 printed art
affixed to a 6¾x8½. Cartoons by Gayle Porter Hoskins (1887-1962) appeared
in the Denver Post from 1901. By 1918, Hoskins was in demand as an
illustrator for many of America's most popular magazines, Harper's
Weekly, Saturday Evening Post, Cosmopolitan, Ladies Home
Journal and Good Housekeeping. After the Wall Street crash of
1929, he recouped his fortune with illustrations for the pulp magazines. From
1938, he concentrated on portraits and historical themes. Lightly toned. Corners
lightly worn. Bottom edge of illustration faintly stained. Otherwise, fine
condition.
