GEENA DAVIS
Laserdisc for Cutthroat Island signed by Davis. This movie tarnished Davis' reputation as a star and earned then-husband Renny Harlin a Razzie Award for Worst Director.
Laserdisc signed "Geena/Davis" in blue ink. Color, 12¼x12¼. Two discs, not included. ©Pioneer Entertainment (USA) LP. Davis starred in Cutthroat Island (2003), a swashbuckling tale of a woman pirate outracing her rivals to find a treasure that was directed by Davis' then-husband Renny Harlin. Cutthroat Island was a disaster for almost everyone involved in its production. It cost $100 million but only grossed $10 million in the United States, which contributed to the demise of its production company, Carolco Pictures. It also helped to ruin, at least temporarily, the bankability of both Davis and pirate movies, and it earned Harlin a Razzie Award nomination for Worst Director. Former model Davis, born Virginia Elizabeth Davis in Wareham, Massachusetts in 1956, has appeared in three TV series, including the critically praised Geena (2000-2001), but her big successes have been on the large screen. She won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for The Accidental Tourist (1988) and was nominated for Best Actress for the feminist crime spree Thelma and Louise (1991). Her other memorable roles have included A League of Their Own (1992) and Stuart Little (1999). Her TV appearances include The Geena Davis Show (2000-2001) and Commander in Chief (2005-2006). Lightly scuffed, otherwise in fine condition.
