Inaugural Program Signed: “Gene Barry” in pencil. 6½x9½. Two pages. In full: “The Inaugural Committee 1961. Reception in honor of The Governors of the States and Special Distinguished Guests. Thursday afternoon the nineteenth of January from three until six o'clock. Sheraton-Park Hotel in the City of Washington”. Stage, film, radio and television actor Gene Barry (1919-2009) is best known for his portrayal of dapper, well-dressed leading characters in television series. Barry's television works include Our Miss Brooks, Bat Masterson,Burke's Law and The Name of the Game. In 1964, Burke's Law won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Show, and Barry won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Star (Male). Always the epitome of diamond-in-the-rough masculinity, Barry astounded his fans in the mid-1980s by accepting the role of an aging homosexual in the stage musical version of the French film comedy, La Cage Aux Follies.
