Document signed: "Gene Fowler", in blue ink, 1 page, 8½x11. December 1, 1939. Los Angeles, California. In part: "Dear Mr. Fowler: Please be advised that due to your incapacity from performing the terms of the agreement between us dated October 20, 1939 and in accordance with Article 9 of said agreement, as the same has heretofore been amended by letter agreement dated November 21, 1939, the term of said agreement and all dates therein provided for shall be extended for a time equal to the period of your incapacity". Gene Fowler (1890-1960) was an American journalist, author, and screenplay writer. Following a failed taxidermy career, Fowler began writing at the Denver Post, where was one of his first assignments was to interview the Western figure Buffalo Bill. He then began working for the New York Daily Mirror, where he soon after began penning his novels, including Trumpet in the Dust, A Solo in Toms-Toms, and The Great Magoo. It was also during this time that he began writing his screenplays, most famous being his Ali Baba Goes to Town (1937) and Some Like It Hot (1939), which bears no relation to the more popular Marilyn Monroe film. His son, Gene Fowler, Jr., became a well-known film editor. Normal mailing folds. Light surface creases. Corners slightly worn and creased. Slightly toned. Small tear on upper left corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
