Chamber, starring Hackman as death-row inmate Sam Cayhall. Gene Hackman (b. 1930) is
a prolific stage and screen actor who earned his screen debut in an episode of Tallahassee
7000 in 1961. After winning Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for
Bonnie and Clyde (1967) and I Never Sang For My Father (1973), Hackman won the
Best Actor Award for his role as narcotics agent Popeye Doyle in The French
Connection (1971). A Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner for the Western Unforgiven
