GENE HERMANSKI
Dodger great Hermanski wears #4
Magazine Page signed: "Gene/Hermanski". Color page (8x10¾
overall); image b/w 4½x2½ (one surface). On page titled, "The Great Yankee
Rivalries: The Dodgers of '47 & '49", one of two pictures is of Hermanski
(wearing what would soon become Duke Snider's #4 uniform), seated with Dodger
players Pee Wee Reese, Arkie Vaughan and Pete Reiser. Below and on verso are b/w
photos of Yankees and Red Sox players. Gene Hermanski (1920-2010) made a brief
Major League debut in 1943, returning to the Brooklyn Dodgers after World War
II. A good hitter, with an unusually high on base percentage for the era and
some power to boot, Hermanski's limited range in the outfield meant that he only
had 400 at bats in one season (1948). A Dodger for most of his career, he
played for the Cubs for two seasons before ending his playing days with the
Pirates in 1953. Horizontal folds. Fine condition.
