Carbon Contract signed: "Gene Kelly" in ink as Performer, 2 pages, 8½x11 goldenrod sheet, front and verso. Los Angeles, California, 1979 November 15. "Standard AFTRA Engagement Contract" between RESI, Inc. of Los Angeles and Kelly for his appearance as a "Principal Performer" on the Debby Boone Special. Kelly was to be paid $25,000 plus applicable pension and welfare for his performance, scheduled for December 18, 1979 at NBC Studios. Also signed: "Jack Spina, V.P." as Producer for RESI, Inc. In the year he signed this contract, Kelly appeared on the TV variety show, The Mary Tyler Moore Hour, and was a presenter (to Martha Graham) on the TV special, The Kennedy Center Honors: A Celebration of the Performing Arts. The following year, he starred in the film musical, Xanadu. Born Eugene Curran Kelly, actor, director and innovative dancer/choreographer Gene Kelly (1912-1996) was a major star in 1950s and 1960s M-G-M musicals, including Singin' in the Rain (1952). In 1951, he received a special Academy Award "in appreciation of his versatility as an actor, singer, director and dancer, and specially for his brilliant achievements in the art of choreography on film". Although Kelly, along with Fred Astaire, was the most successful song-and-dance man in film history, his 1952 film marked the peak of his career, and Kelly moved to Europe to take advantage of tax exemptions. Shortly after he returned to Hollywood, Kelly starred in Brigadoon (1954). His other films include Anchors Aweigh (1945; Best Actor Academy Award nomination), Take Me Out to the Ball Game (1949), An American in Paris (1951), Marjorie Morningstar (1958) and Inherit the Wind (1960), and Kelly also hosted and starred in several TV series and miniseries and made guest appearances on a number of TV shows from 1954-1984. Type light but completely legible. Lightly creased. Staple holes at upper left blank corner, 2 file holes at upper margin. Light glue stains at upper edge. Fine condition.
