He signs a 1956 documentary letter giving equal billing to himself and Danny Kaye in an MGM musical version of Huckleberry Finn, a film which was never produced.
Document signed: "Gene Kelly", 1 page, 8½x11. Culver City, California, 1956 February 7. Kelly signs his agreement to a documentary letter from Loew's, Inc., on Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures letterhead, giving Loew's discretion to give top billing to either Kelly or Danny Kaye in a proposed musical based on the story Huckleberry Finn, provided that the letter's in Kelly's name shall be the same size as in Kaye's. Regrettably, the named musical was never produced. Actor, director and innovative dancer/choreographer GENE KELLY (1912-1996) was a major 1950s and 1960s star in MGM musicals such as Singin' in the Rain (1952). He received a special Academy Award in 1951 "in appreciation of his versatility as an actor, singer, director and dancer, and specially for his brilliant achievements in the art of choreography on film". Other standout performances included Anchors Aweigh (1945) and An American in Paris (1951). Slightly creased and soiled. Binder and staple holes at top. Otherwise, fine condition.
