Roberts (b.1932) joined The Philadelphia Inquirer in 1972 as executive editor. Under
Roberts' leadership, The Inquirer won 17 Pulitzer Prizes in 18 years between 1972 and
1990. These years, regarded as The Inquirer's "Golden Age," established the influential press
as one of Philadelphia's most profitable enterprises. Since his retirement in 1990, Roberts has
won his own Pulitzer Prize for History as co-author of The Race Beat. A professor, he also
served as the managing editor of The New York Times (1994-1997). Fine condition.
