GENERAL ALEXANDER M. HAIG, JR.
Index card with ornate black border signed by Alexander M. Haig, Jr. Haig was President Richard Nixon's Chief of Staff and President Ronald Reagan's Secretary of State.
Signature: "Al M Haig Jr". Blue ink notations on verso in unknown hand. 5x3 card with ornate black border. Four-star general Haig (1924-2010), who served in Korea and Vietnam, is credited with keeping the government going while President Richard Nixon was embroiled in the Watergate scandal. In 1968, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger had appointed Haig as military advisor to the National Security Council. In 1973, Haig replaced H. R. Haldeman as Nixon's Chief of Staff, but resigned six weeks after the President to become Supreme Commander of the NATO forces in Europe (1974-1979). In 1981, Haig was named President Ronald Reagan's first Secretary of State, but unexpectedly resigned in 1982, presumably over disagreements regarding foreign policy. He sought the Republican Presidential nomination in 1988. Lightly toned and bowed. Staple holes in top left corner. Otherwise in fine condition.
