C. EVERETT KOOP
Photograph of the U.S. Surgeon General signed in silve rink
Inscribed photograph signed: "To/Tom [illegible]/C Everett Koop", in silver ink, Color 8x10. C. Everett Koop (1916-2013) was a pediatric surgeon, a professor at University of Pennsylvania Medical School and Surgeon-in-Chief at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia when President Reagan nominated him for U.S. Surgeon General, a position he held from 1981 to 1989. Ironically, many who had opposed his nomination because of Koop's outspoken opposition to abortion ended up applauding him for his activist approach to the health hazards of smoking, to the AIDS epidemic and to the rights of the disabled. He is now Senior Scholar at the C. Everett Koop Institute, Dartmouth University. Fine condition.
