In Full: "Dear Mr. Cooper Thank you for your letter. I believe the enclosed statement [included] which I presented to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee should answer your questions on the Joint Chiefs of Staff position on SALT. Sincerely" Fine Condition. Accompanied by: 9p. 8½x11, titled: STATEMENT OF GENERAL DAVID C. JONES, USAF CHAIRMAN, JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF ON BEHALF OF THE JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF BEFORE THE SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE ON SALT II 11 JULY 1979. Staple holes upper left corners. Fine condition. David C. Jones (1921-2013) graduated from Roswell flying school in 1943 and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps- World War II. During the Korean War, the 19th Bomber Group under his command earned the nickname "Jones' bridge busters." He graduated from the National War College in 1960 and became the Air Force Chief of Staff (1974-78), serving as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1978-82 when he retired from military life. Jones is one of the few to reach such high rank without attending a service academy. Two items.
