The General meets the Cardinal in NYC during his tickertape parade the day after Truman relieved MacArthur from his command in Korea.
Photo Mount signed: "Douglas MacArthur" and "F. Cardinal/Spellman". B/w, 12x15, matted to 17x20 overall (not in the Gallery of History style) (two surfaces). This photograph was taken in New York City on April 21, 1951 the day after President Harry Truman had relieved General MacArthur from his command in Korea and MacArthur had given his "Old Soldiers Never Die" speech. MacArthur was in NYC for a tickertape parade. Cardinal Spellman was on the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral when MacArthur stopped his car, got out and shook the Cardinal's hand. This photo was taken at that meeting.SPELLMAN, Archbishop of New York from 1939-1967, was created Cardinal in 1946. Fine condition.
