Combination: 1) Typed Letter Signed: "Hugh Harris". 8½x11. Letterhead from The Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina. Dated January 18th, 1968. Sent to Mr. Thomas L. Alford Sr. In Part: "In response to the request in your good letter of 15 January, I'm enclosing an autographed photograph and a copy of my biography". Rippling creases along left side. Toned around edges. Otherwise, fine condition. 2) Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/Tom Alford-/with my/best wishes-/Hugh Harris". B/w, 8x10. Actual image 6½x8. Lightly creased. Slightly bowed. Otherwise, fine condition. General Hugh Harris (1909-1979) held a number of positions over his distinguished 34-year military career, including Commanding General, Berlin Command (1955), Commanding General, I Corps (Group) - Korea (1961) and Commanding General, U.S. Seventh Army (1962, the year he received his fourth star). He received more than 20 citations and decorations, including a Silver Star and Legion of Merit. He was named President of The Citadel in 1965, serving in that capacity until 1970. Harris is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Two Items.
