Colonel James A. Van Fleet commanded the 8th Infantry when it went ashore on
Utah Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), ahead of most of the Allied
invasion force. By the end of the month, the 8th Infantry had helped to
capture Cherbourg. In March 1945, Major General Van Fleet commanded the III
Corps, which spearheaded the First Army's advance from the Remagen bridgehead
across Germany. Fine condition.
