GENERAL JOHANN ADOLF GRAF VON KIELMANSEGG The German General who took part in the remilitarization of West Germany post-WWII signed his name in blue felt tip Signature: "Johann Adolf Graf Kielmansegg", in blue felt tip, 5¾x4. The card features a mounted 2x2¼ b/w photograph of the general. Handwritten title: “General, German Army / Commander in Chief / Allied Forces Central Europe / 1966-1968”. Johann Adolf Graf Von Kielmansegg (1906-2006) was a General in the Bundeswehr (the Federal Republic of Germany's armed forces), having a military influence while still a teenager attending boarding school. He enlisted in the Reichswehr, and served as a cavalry officer until being appointed a lieutenant in 1930. Several years later, he was promoted to captain, and would serve in WWII under various positions and troops. He was especially notable for being a friend with Claus von Stauffenberg, a fellow soldier who would go on to lead an attempted assassination against Adolf Hitler. Kielmansegg knew of the plot, but did not participate, and ultimately decided against using the knowledge of the plot to free himself of any accusations of being a Nazi or Nazi sympathizer. After the war, Kielmansegg worked in publishing for a brief time, later reappearing back in uniform in 1955 as a major general to help supervise the remilitarization of the federal republic. However, he retired in 1968, and would live the remainder of his life quietly until passing away in 2006. Notes on verso (unknown hand). Otherwise, fine condition.
