John Shalikashvill sends a typed letter of thanks to a veteran of World War II.
Typed Letter signed as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: "John Shalikashvili", 1p, 7¼x7¾. On official letterhead. Washington, D.C., 1994 January 12. In full: "Thank you for your recent letter and kind words. I appreciate the contributions that you made to our Nation as a veteran of World War II. It is good to hear from people who understand the courage and sacrifice of our brave men and women in uniform. Enclosed is the autographed photograph you request. [not present] Best wishes to you and yours for happiness in the New Year. Sincerely." From 1992-1993, the Polish-born General was Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, and Commander in Chief of the U.S., European Command. Appointed by President Clinton, General Shalikashvili served as Chairman of the JCSfrom 1993-1997. Now retired, Shalikashvili gave a prime-time speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention endorsing Senator John Kerry for President. Lightly soiled in blank lower right. Otherwise, fine condition.
