Typed Letter signed: "Jos. L. Stoppelbein", 1page, 8½x11. Charleston, South Carolina, 1905 May 27. On letterhead of the Southern Mutual Investment Company to James Simons. In full: "I find that I will have to leave my office for the day and as I am very anxious to hear definitely from that matter today, I would thank you to advise me by special messenger as soon as you hear. Please send special messenger letter to my residence 31 Bee Street. I enclose 10 cents messenger fee. Thanking you in advance for your courtesy I am Yours very respectfully". Joseph L. Stoppelbein, an insurance executive with the Aetna and other companies, was also a Brigadier General commanding the First Brigade of Cavalry, South Carolina National Guard. Horizontal and vertical fold creases. Lower right corner missing. All edges notched and chipped. Stained and foxed.
