B/w photocopy of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Monument at West Point, signed by General Lyman L. Lemnitzer. He was Assistant Chief of Staff of the Allied Forces Headquarters under General Dwight D. Eisenhower during World War II and principal speaker at the dedication ceremony for this monument.
Photocopy signed "L. L. Lemnitzer/General, U. S. Army" in blue ink. B/w, 1 page, 8x10¾. Photocopy of a photograph of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Monument at West Point. Captioned: "Association of Graduates/Assembly/United States Military Academy/June 1983". This monument was dedicated in 1983. Lemnitzer was the principal speaker at the dedication ceremony. In June 1942, Lemnitzer (1899-1988) was promoted to Brigadier General in command of the 34th Anti-Aircraft Brigade and soon received appointment as Assistant Chief of Staff of the Allied Forces Headquarters under General Dwight D. Eisenhower in London. After aiding in the planning of the North African invasion, he resumed command of the 34th in February of 1943 and led it in the opening phases of General Patton's Sicilian Campaign. In late June 1943, he became Deputy Chief of Staff of the Allied 15th Army Group (U.S. 7th, British 8th) under General Sir Harold R.L.G. Alexander. He was promoted to Major General in November 1944. After the war, Lemnitzer was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1960-1963) and Supreme Allied Commander of NATO (1963-1969). Lightly toned and creased. Caption, but not signature, is cut off at bottom. Photocopy marks. Otherwise in fine condition.
