OMAR N. BRADLEY
Re: his appointment to head a study on veterans' benefits.
TLS: "Omar Bradley", 1p, 7x8. Washington, 1955 February 18. To Floyd I. Silk, Joint Veterans' Fund, New York. In full: "You were kind indeed to take the time to write such a nice letter regarding my appointment to head the study of veterans' benefits. I appreciate your expression of confidence more than I can say. I only hope that my future actions will merit your continued confidence and support." Creased, diagonal crease touches the "ey". With original envelope postmarked Beverly Hills, California, indicating Bradley may have written the letter there. Creased and worn. In WWII, General Bradley commanded the II Corps in Tunisia and Sicily (1943), commanded the First Army (January 1944) and the 12th Army Group (August 1944), the largest force ever commanded by a field commander. He was Army Chief of Staff (1948-1949) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1949-1953). In 1950, he was promoted to Five-Star General of the Army. Bradley retired in 1953. Two items.
