TLS: "Omar N. Bradley" as President of the George C. Marshall Research Foundation, 1p, 7¼x10½. Lexington, Va., 1965 March 9. To Colonel A.J. Weigley, Secretary, Henry Leavenworth Chapter, AUSA, Bell Hall, Fort Leavenworth, Kans. In full: "I have been informed of the generous gift from the Henry Leavenworth Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, and I wish to add to the Foundation's official acknowledgment of your gift my personal appreciation. The response to our current campaign is a source of great encouragement to us all, and on behalf of all the other officers of the Foundation, my grateful thanks." George C. Marshall Research Foundation is a private, non-profit foundation in Lexington, Virginia. On December 28, 1980, Hugh Sidey reported in "The Washington Star" that "Omar Bradley said that Marshall was the man who contributed more to U. S. efforts from 1939 to 1951 than any other individual." In WWII, General Bradley commanded the II Corps in Tunisia and Sicily (1943), commanded the First Army (January 1944) and the 12th Army Group (August 1944), the largest force ever commanded by a field commander. He was Army Chief of Staff (1948-1949) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1949-1953). In 1950, he was promoted to Five-Star General of the Army; he retired in 1953. Lightly creased. 2 light paper clip impressions at upper left margin. Receipt stamp at upper center. Fine condition.
