TLS: "Omar N Bradley" as General of the Army, 1p, 7x8. Washington, D.C., 1969 April 18. On his official Five-Star letterhead to Mr. Stanley Slota, Chicago, Illinois. In full: "Thank you very much for your nice letter. I appreciate your kind and generous remarks about my Army career. I am sorry you have had an operation on your eye, and I hope you will soon be completely well. I am delighted to fulfill your request for a photograph which I am inclosing. With best wishes, Sincerely". Photograph not present. Lieutenant General Omar Nelson Bradley (1893-1981) took command of the First Army in January 1944, which, constituting the Allied right wing, landed at Utah and Omaha beaches, Normandy, on D-Day, June 6, 1944. In August 1944, he became the Commander of the 12th Army Group, the largest force ever commanded on the field. In 1950, Bradley was promoted to Five-Star General of the Army. He served as the first Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1949-1953. Lightly creased. Ink stain touches two lines of correspondent's address (type completely legible), light stains touch Bradley's typed name and title (all legible). Fine condition.
