"In reply to your note of inquiry, I have the honor to inform you that
Colonel Frederick C. Newhall of Philadelphia is the author of the work entitled:
'With General Sheridan in Lee's last Campaign.'" Union General Sheridan
devastated the Shenandoah Valley in 1864 after making his famous ride from
Winchester to rally his troops. In April 1865, he deployed his army across the
Confederate line of retreat from Appomattox, helping force Lee's surrender to
Grant. Mounting stains at top margin, mounting remnants on verso (minor show
through), else fine.
