Randolph M. Pate signs a document certifying that Peter W. Stocker has successfully completed all requirements of the Junior Course, Marine Corps PLATOON LEADERS CLASS officer training program.
Partly Printed Document Signed: "R. M. Pate" as General, United States Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps, 1p, 10½x8. Quantico, Virginia, 1957 July 27. Headed: "The United States Marine Corps/Platoon Leaders Class". In full: "This is to certify that Peter W. Stocker has successfully completed all requirements of the Junior Course, Marine Corps PLATOON LEADERS CLASS officer training program. By virtue of this he is hereby meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal, United States Marine Corps Reserve. Duly signed, this 27th day of July 1957." Randolph M. Pate (1898-1961) served as the 21st Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956-1959. He had previously been Assistant Commandant from July 1954. Pate, a veteran of WWII, received the Legion of Merit for his service in the Pacific, which included the battle of Guadalcanal, and he earned a Distinguished Service Medal for his service in the Korean Conflict. Upon his retirement from the military in 1959, Pate was presented with the Navy Distinguished Service Medal. Slightly creased. Lightly soiled at blank areas. Overall, fine condition.
