TIMOTHY PICKERING. ALS: "T. Pickering" as Washington's Postmaster General, 1p, 7¾x9¼. (Philadelphia), 1792 August 29. To Henry Drinker. In full: "The bearer is Colo Hollenback of Wyoming. He has new lands, or Discoveries, on the waters of the Susquehannah to dispose of. I have taken the liberty to recommend him to you. If you should have ceased to purchase such lands, I told him you could, better than any one, advise him where to apply. Mr. Hollenback was my neighbor at Wyoming, and whatever information he shall undertake to give may be relied on." Integral address leaf in Pickering's hand: "Mr. Henry Drinker/Front Street". Docket and calculations probably in Drinker's hand. Wyoming, Pennsylvania is on the Susquehanna River between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. Pickering was Washington's Postmaster General (1791-1795), Secretary of War (1795) and Secretary of State (1795-1797) continuing in that office into Adams administration (1797-1800). Lightly creased and nicked at right edge. Light stain at upper right corner affects eight words. Address leaf torn at upper right corner from seal, which is still present. Shaded at folds, lightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
