GENERAL WILLIAM W. MOMYER - INSCRIBED PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED - HFSID 290483

WILLIAM W. MOMYER
Color image in 4-star general's uniform, signing as commander of the Tactical Air Command
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Mr. Richard Calow/Best of luck with/your hobby/William W. Momyer/General USAF/Comdr TAC". Color, 8x10. William Wallace Momyer (1916-2012) commanded the 33rd Fighter Group in North Africa and Italy during World War II, earning ace status with 8 kills, including 4 kills in one day in North Africa when he single-handedly took on 14 Stuka dive bombers escorted by fighters. Momyer headed the 8th Fighter Bomber Wing during the Korean conflict, and the 7th Air Force in Vietnam. He took command of the Tactical Air Command in August 1968. Momyer, the author of a major work on air power in three wars, was no stranger to controversy, including very poor relations with Generals Benjamin O. Davis and Chuck Yeager (whose promotion he reportedly opposed). Corners creased. Toned around edges. Pencil note 9unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise fine condition.
