GEORGE ARCHER
Professional golfer George Archer wrote this letter to a fan seeking his autograph in 1961.
Archer won the 1969 Masters by one stroke over Billy Casper, George Knudson and
Tom Weiskopf.
Autograph Letter signed "George Archer". Typed notations in top right corner. 1 page, 6x7¾.
March 28, 1961.In full: "Dear Mr Johnson It is very nice of you to include me in your collection.
Enclosed is a picture taken when I was eighteen, [not enclosed] also the score card in the best score
I've ever had. [not enclosed] Thank you for your good wishes. I remain, Sincerely". Archer
(1939-2005), who joined the PGA Tour in 1964, won 12 tour events, including the 1969
Masters. After 1989, when Archer joined the Champions Tour, he notched an additional 19
wins. Always known for his fine putting, Archer recorded a then record low 95 putts on 72
holes at the Sea Pines Heritage Classic in 1980. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise in fine
condition.
