Two English actors sign cards attached to this album leaf.
Signatures: "George Arliss", 3¾x2½ card, affixed to7¼x5¼ album leaf, to which a cigarette card (color, 1¼x2½) featuring illustration of Arliss, is also attached. Also signed on 4½x1¾ card affixed on verso: "Best Wishes/Vera Pearce". GEORGE ARLISS (1868-1946) was famed for his portrayal of historical figures, first on London and Broadway stages and later in silent, then talking films. He played Voltaire, Richlieu, Alexander Hamilton, Nathan Rothschild and the Duke of Wellington, among others. He earned an Oscar as Best Actor in 1929 for Disraeli. Australian-born singer and actress VERA PEARCE (1895-1966) appeared in silent films as early as 1915 (The Shepherd of the Southern Cross). Her last film was The Night We Got the Bird (1961). Arliss card lightly creased at signature and lightly soiled. Pearce card stained at lower right corner. Album leaf lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
