The record-breaking commercial pilot signs a handwritten note at the
bottom of a typed request for his autograph.
Autograph Note signed: "Geo B Grogan", 1 page, 8½x11. At the
bottom of a typed letter, dated February 6, 1929, noting one of Grogan's
achievements and requesting his autograph, Grogan replies: "Thanks for
compliments and interest in the record as well as in the air mail as well."
George B. Grogan, a pilot with the private National Air Transport Co.,
set speed and distance records for delivery of air mail. Besides the feat
honored here, Grogan also flew from Wichita, Kansas to Kansas City, 173
miles, in one hour flat, a record time. A decade later, 1938, as
Assistant Chief Pilot of United Airlines, Grogan delivered a sack of mail to
Newark New Jersey after another record-breaking flight from Denver to Newark:
the longest non-stop, scheduled overland flight - 1,735 miles. Later Grogan
was active in formation of the Retired United Pilots Association. Normal mailing
folds. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
