GEORGE BRISTOW. Autograph Sentiment signed: "Yours truly/George Bristow/Sept 30 [year illegible]", 3½x2½. George Frederick Bristow (1825-1898), an American classical composer who championed works produced in America, joined the New York Harmonic Society as a violinist in 1843, remaining with the orchestra until 1879, serving in the 1850s as its concert master. His works included an opera, Rip Van Winkle (1855), and The Oratorio of Daniel, which was hailed after its 1858 debut as one of the most important musical compositions yet produced by an American. Bristow also taught music in the New York Public Schools, dying in a classroom. Lightly soiled. Mounting adhesive remnants on verso show through. Light vertical fold crosses "st" of signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
