GEORGE BURNS and GRACIE ALLEN Vintage photo of the couple, a youthful image Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Irma Tutty/Sincerely/Gracie Allen", "George Burns". Sepia, 8x10. Inscribed in fountain pen. GEORGE BURNS (1896-1996) was a struggling vaudeville comedian when he met GRACIE ALLEN (1895-1964), who thought she had left show business for a secretarial career. Together, they became one of America's most beloved comedy teams, with Burns writing the lines and playing the straight man, and Allen getting the laughs. They debuted on radio in 1931. A string of comedy films followed over the next decade. Their popular TV show, The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, ran for eight years (1950-1958) until Gracie's retirement. Less successful at first without Gracie, Burns enjoyed a new period of success in a series of films beginning with The Sunshine Boys (1975), for which he won the Oscar as Best Supporting Actor. The octogenarian even played God for laughs in a series of films beginning with Oh, God (1977). Lightly creased. Corners creased and lightly worn. Minor notches at top edge. Ink marks near top left corner. Signature lightly smeared at "Tutty" but legible. Ink printing on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
